Kareena Kapoor was born on September 21, 1980. She is informally called Bebo. She is a popular Indian actress appearing as an eminent figure in Indian Cinema. She has proudly received five prestigious Filmfare awards. She has invariably acted in all type of films from romantic dramas to publicized films. Her both parents Randhir and Babita, her sister Karisma Kapoor and her uncle Rishi Kapoor were great actors. She is granddaughter of actor and director Raj Kapoor and great-granddaughter of the legendary Prithviraj Kapoor. She made her first debut in Refugee in 2000.Her multi-starrer film Khabie Khushi Khabie Gham in 2001 became blockbuster and highest grossing film in overseas too. She played a role of sex worker in Chameli in 2004 which proved to be a turning point of her film career. In 2001, she acted in Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai which became highest earning film of the year. A review in The Hindu noted that she really shined in the movie with the grace of seasoned sizzler. Then she played in Yaadein which unfortunately did not do well at box-office. Then she appeared in Ajnabee which was marked as a moderate box office in India. Later she had a magnificent role in Asoka. This film was invariably screened not only across United Kingdom but also North America. However, during 2002 and 2003 though she had 6 six releases; Mushy Dosti Karoge!, Jeans Sirf Merre Liye, Talaash, The Hunt Begins, Khushi, Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon but all were commercially unsuccessful. Thus, these years were a real setback in her career.
Then in 2004 she was again fortified with critic’s acclaims with her commercial success Chameli which was a more serious based film. Then she did the bi-lingual project Yuva which was enigmatic. Later she acted in critically acclaimed film named Dev which earned her the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance. She had Fida and Hulchul in which she had fabulous roles. In 2006 she played in 36 China Town and Chup Chup Ke which did quite well. In the same year, Omkara, was highly premiered in the 2006 Cannes Film Festival and Cairo International Film Festival. With this film she bagged her fourth Filmfare award and first Star Screen Award.
Jab We Met in 2007 became one of the year’s most successful film. It bagged her several awards in addition to Filmfare Award for Best Actress and second Star Screen Award for Best Actress. In 2009, she played in Kambakkht Ishq which was the first Indian film that was shot in Universal Studios Hollywood, California. She then starred in Main Aurr Mrs. Khanna which was not successful financially but she was acclaimed for her performance. Later was Kurbaan, in which she totally proved that she can accommodate her beauty in incredible character.
In 2009, 3 Idiots was released which was a major critical as well as financial success. It became highest grossing film of all time in the Bollywood and the second biggest Bollywood success of all the time in overseas market. During the 55th Filmfare Awards she received Best Actress Nomination for her role.
Bebo/BirthdayHer film We Are Family was fortified with positive reviews and the film performed excellently at box-office. MiD Day wrote that she was the real scene stealer and The New York Times also provided efficient reviews for her. Her forthcoming films are Golmaal 3, Ra. One and Agent-Vinod.
Her stage performances were numerous which took place worldwide from United States and Canada to South Africa, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Dubai. She has even done a lot of humanitarian work from Help! Telethon concert for 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake to 5,000,000 rupees which she won as her share in Kaun Banega Crorepati and highly donated to St. Anthony’s Old Age Home and Mount Mary at Bandra. In 2009, she donated her 1,000,000 rupees from 10 Ka Dum to Old Age Home.
At 2009, she joined the BMC of India to create awareness for cleanliness. She attended NDTV Greenathon to provide electricity to Village of Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh.
In clothing lines, she became brand ambassador of clothing chain Globus on a two year contract. In 2008, she claimed that she will start her own line of clothing and in 2010 she expressed her desire to work with Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in France which is an established international design house.
