ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik on Tuesday lauded performance of Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) for ensuring complete security during Ashura which resulted in peaceful culmination of various Majalis and Processions across the country. He said mobile phone services were closed at three places of the country due to security measures, however, these were restored at night on Tuesday.
Talking to mediapersons here, he thanked Taliban and Ulema for their cooperation in ensuring peace during Ashura.
Thanks to sound strategy of LEAs, no untoward incident happened, especially during Youm-e-Ashur, he added.
He said as part of security measures, a Special Operation Unit was established in Crisis Management Cell. The information was shared persistently with various stakeholders, he added.
The Minister said Special Operating Procedures (SOPs) would also be devised to ensure peace on other religious occasions including Eid Milad un Nabi, Eid ul Fitr etc.
Responding to a question, Rehman Malik said he was unable to take action on the prior information received that bomb blasts might happen in Karachi, adding that prior action was impossible due to vague nature of information received.
Denying gas blasts in Karachi, he said both of blasts on Monday and Tuesday were bomb blasts. At Shahrah-e-Faisal, a device was placed in an under construction building. Miscreants were unable to detonate blasts due to strict security. (APP)
