Pakistan to encourage more investment from Norwegian companies: Naek

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will encourage more investment from Norwegian companies particularly in oil & gas, communications, infrastructure, agriculture and fisheries sectors, and in areas of FATA and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, affected by recent disasters. This was stated by Chairman Senate, Farooq H. Naek while talking to the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, Ms Cecilie Landsverk who called on him at the Parliament House here on Tuesday. There exists a vast potential for investment in our economy.The investment climate offered by Pakistan is very attractive and profitable, he added.
While expressing satisfaction over the upward movement in Pakistan-Norway bilateral trade, the Chairman said, we need to sustain this positive trend through exchange of business delegations and by establishing
institutional linkages between the private sectors.
The Senate Chairman said the democratic government of Pakistan is keen to work closely with the Norwegian government to further strengthen existing bilateral cooperation to the mutual benefit of our people, he further said, our relations are based on commonality of views and shared values of democratic pluralism and economic liberalism.
Pakistan wishes to build broad-based, substantive and long term relations with Norway, as Pakistan consider Norway as an important partner country bilaterally as well as in the context of the Nordic region, he added.
The chairman appreciated the Norwegian government announcement of financial assistance for the flood victims in the Sindh province and said, we look forward to continued Norwegian support to our rehabilitation efforts for the flood affectees.
The Chairman said, “we greatly value Norway’s assistance in uplifting Pakistan’s social sectors particularly in education, health and environment.
“Both countries should explore the possibility of cooperation in the fields of education and culture through establishing linkages between the centers of excellence of the two countries and people to people contacts”, he added.
Naek underscored the need for enhanced exchange of Parliamentary delegations between the two countries to promote people-to-people contacts. Such visits will help promote greater cooperation between the two Parliaments.
The Norwegian Ambassador assured him all possible cooperation in further strengthening the cordial relations between the two countries. (APP)
