ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari was on Friday quoted as emphatically brushing aside rumours about his health, saying he was completely alright and will return to Pakistan soon, emphasising that his distractors would be disappointed. “I was born in Pakistan and I will die in Pakistan”, senior journalist and television anchor-person, Hamid Mir, quoted the President as saying.
Talking with PTV, Hamid Mir said that he had a conversation with President Zardari on Friday morning during which the President told him that speculations about his health are baseless.
Hamid Mir said that during the conversation the President said that the rumours being spread about his health, are totally wrong.
He said the President talked with him for a long time and enquired about the well-being of other journalist friends and also talked about the situation in Pakistan.
The President time and again said that he is alright and he had some problem and underwent check-up but now the tests are clear and he will return to Pakistan in a few days, Hamid Mir said.
The doctors have advised the President rest, Hamid Mir said while narrating his conversation with the President.
Hamid said, the President remarked that perhaps many of his enemies do not want him to return to his country.
“They think that I have fled but escape is not an option. I will never leave as I was born in Pakistan and I will die in Pakistan. Inshallah, I will return in a few days and my enemies will be disappointed,” Hamid Mir quoted the President as saying.
Hamid said during his conversation with the President he got the impression that he has deep study of even Urdu literature as he quoted some couplets of Faiz Ahmed Faiz to him.
The President talked about media and his critics, he added.
Hamid said President Zardari seemed totally recovered and he said that he will meet him after coming to Pakistan. (APP)
