SIALKOT: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said that another sui gas pipeline would be laid from Wazirabad to Sialkot to overcom gas shortage.Talking to a delegation of local trade bodies including the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Kuba Chak on Sunday, she said the government was taking urgent steps to cope with power crisis, adding various options were under consideration of the government. She said that generating electricity from hydel power was inexpensive and provincial governments could undertake electricity projects in their respective provinces. About 2,000 megawatt electricity would be produced by using waste of factories which will be supportive in minimizing the problem, she added.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Punjab Sardar Latif Khosa has underscored widening the tax base for brining about radical changes in society as well as for development of the country.
The governor said the government would take all stakeholders on board while preparing budget and new budget will pro-poor and business friendly.
He stressed upon members of trade bodies to submit their proposals and suggestions for helping the government in preparing budget.
He made it clear that the government gave consideration to proposals and suggestions of the business community while preparing budget.
The government was fully aware about problems of the business community and making all-out efforts to address the energy crisis on a top priority, he added.
Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Naeem Anwar Qureshi, Sialkot Dry Port chairman Ishaq Bhutt and representatives of other trade bodies were also present. (APP)
